One of the most prolific artists working in music today, Camae Ayewa just last week announced a new album under her Moor Mother moniker, and released jazz rap track 'Woody Shaw', today she almost immediately follows it with another album cut, 'Rap Jasm', featuring collaborators AKAISOLO and justmadnice. The album was initially intended to be an accompanying CD to a book of poetry Ayewa has written, a collection of poems written in honour of jazz and blues icons like Woody Shaw, Amina Claudine Myers, and Mary Lou Williams called Jazz Codes. Working with Swedish producer Olof Melander who over lockdowns would send her hundreds of old jazz loops, the project began to grow into it's own thing and gradually take the shape of an album. Featuring a number of collaborations including some of Camae's Irreversible Entanglements bandmates the record is set to be a finely woven tapestry of old and new, of innovative jazz, beats and poetry.
